UNDER THE LIGHTS, RUNNERS SHINE
Both Boys and Girls cross country had the opportunity to show what they got in this highly anticipated and elite level meet on Saturday night, September 18 as they both ran the “Rated races”, the rated races being the second fastest race of the entire meet!
The meet displayed some of the best schools in the country with a lot of California, Texas, Utah, and other states programs present to show what they got. King started with our girls team of Audrey Brunken and Andrea Guadian in the rated race and took off flying with both girls going in the first mile under 6 minutes! The girls grabbed huge PR’s (personal records) with Audrey Brunken ending with a time of 18:23 and Andrea Guadian with a time of 18:40!
The varsity boys were up next and just as the girls before them, the race went out blazing with all top 5 boys going at 5:10 or faster while our top two boys of Mavhera and Slavin were under 5 flat! Gray Mavhera had an outstanding performance led the boys in 15:19 time, Jack Slavin and Matthew Gwynn also broke 16:00 with Slavin clocking a 15:32 and Gwynn a 15:49.
Julian Morgan and Damien Zemanek also clock strong efforts with Morgan just off from breaking 16 with a 16:07 finish and Zemanek a 16:24 finish. Brayden Lunetta also competed in this high class meet and ran a very respectable 17:35 as a Freshman! One to look forward to in the future.
It was a nice test for the boys to see where they stand in the State and what to look forward to for the season. There is great optimism coming from the runners’ performances as these same boys and girls can grow from the race and get better when the post season arrives.
Matthew Gwynn said “You weren’t kidding when you said they will take it out that fast, but it was good, I am happy I am under 16 now”
